Aargau lies between Zürich, Basel and Bern, and many people who move here live in one town and work in another. If you have just moved to Baden, Aarau or the Limmattal, a car by the month gives you time to settle before you lease or buy one, with no Swiss credit history needed.
Where we deliver in Aargau and the Limmattal
Delivery is available now in Aargau, and in the canton of Zürich next door. The car comes to your home, office or temporary flat:
- Baden and Wettingen: including the Baden districts of Dättwil, Rütihof, Kappelerhof and Turgi
- Limmattal: Spreitenbach and Killwangen in Aargau, and Dietikon just across the border in Zürich
- Aarau, Lenzburg and Brugg, and the towns around them
The delivery cost for your address is listed in your offer.
Train, tram or car?
Most towns here have fast trains to Zürich. Fastest weekday morning connections in the timetable for October 2026:
| From | To Zürich HB |
|---|---|
| Baden | 16 minutes |
| Lenzburg | 20 minutes |
| Wettingen | 23 minutes |
| Brugg | 24 minutes |
| Aarau | 25 minutes |
In the Limmattal, the Limmattalbahn (line 20) has run every 15 minutes between Zürich Altstetten, Schlieren, Dietikon and Killwangen-Spreitenbach since December 2022.
The roads are a different story. The canton of Aargau itself says the road network in the narrow gorge (Klus) of Baden is already at its capacity, and that the Bruggerstrasse remains the most heavily used road in the region. A car is most useful for the trips trains don’t cover well: between two villages, to a business park, with children or with a week’s shopping. For the centre of Zürich at rush hour, the train is often faster.
Parking in Baden and Wettingen
Each municipality sets its own rules. As of October 2026:
Baden
- In parking zones 4 to 9 (Kappelerhof, Allmend, Meierhof, Dättwil, Rütihof and Turgi), the first four hours are free. Set your arrival time on the blue parking disc. Moving the disc forward without leaving is not allowed.
- Resident permits: registered residents without their own parking space get up to two, but the car must be registered in their name and address. Company cars need proof from the employer. Rental cars are not mentioned, so ask the Stadtpolizei before you rely on a permit.
- Visitors of residents can buy a day permit for CHF 10 in zones 4 to 9.
Wettingen
- Night parking on public parking spaces costs CHF 30 a month for a car, for residents and commuters.
- Day parking cards cost CHF 40 a month for residents and business owners, and CHF 75 for commuters and non-residents.
- A card is only valid once your payment has arrived. At the counter you need the paper vehicle registration document (Fahrzeugausweis), which is usually kept in the car.
For a month or more, a private parking space saves you most of this. Ask your landlord or employer whether a space is free from your start date.
Exchanging a foreign licence in Aargau
You can drive on a foreign licence for 12 months after you enter Switzerland. Aargau asks you to apply at least one month before those 12 months end. As of 2026:
- Send the documents by post to Strassenverkehrsamt Aargau, Führerzulassung, Postfach, 5001 Aarau. The office itself is at Länzert 2 in Schafisheim.
- Include the application form with an eyesight test, your original licence, a copy of your residence permit and a colour passport photo (35 × 45 mm).
- A licence that is not in German, French, Italian or English needs a translation from a consulate or embassy in Switzerland, or from a translation service the office accepts.
Expired licences cannot be exchanged. Depending on the country that issued your licence, you also need a check drive. It cannot be repeated if you fail, so the office recommends a lesson with a driving instructor first. You bring a roadworthy car and its vehicle registration document; if that is your rental car, ask the rental partner beforehand. All steps are in our guide to exchanging a foreign driving licence.
